Mom-Friendly Job Boards
When looking for a job, we all know about the obvious job board sites like Indeed and LinkedIn.
And don’t get me wrong – those are great options (learn about the benefits of LinkedIn ). But they’re not the only ones.
When you’re a woman, and especially when you’re a mom, sometimes it’s better to seek out job board sites that are focused on women as part of your job search strategy. Why? Because employers who are posting jobs on those sites are intentionally seeking out women and moms! It’s not a coincidence. And if these employers are wanting to hire women, especially women with parenting skills, it implies that they offer a supportive, family-friendly work environment and that they recognize the value, skills, and perspective that women bring to the workplace. It also implies (although it’s not guaranteed) that they offer employee benefits that are supportive of families and professional development opportunities.
Many of these job board sites also offer other supportive resources that are specific to women that you don’t necessarily find with job boards that don’t focus on females. This isn’t to say that you can’t or shouldn’t use any other resource that you trust, but expanding your search and using these sites as part of your job hunt can only help you find the perfect opportunity for you and your family.
Below is a list of six job board sites that are dedicated to helping women and mothers find their next career opportunity (One Skilled Mama has no business affiliation with any of these companies). This is not an exhaustive list, but I chose to feature these sites because of their focus and reach. Not all of these sites may be right for you, but they will likely be a good fit for many moms.
I’m excited for you to find out more so let’s jump in!
Freelancing Females
Freelancing Females is an awesome site that posts part-time or short-term work opportunities for women in a variety of creative, IT, and administrative fields. I’m talking makeup artists, actors, web designers, virtual assistants, SEO specialists, Public Relations, tutoring, journalism, language interpretation, etc. This is a great resource if you’re not ready to commit to a single employer and a set schedule, if you’re just wanting to make a little money without having to give up a lot of time with your kids, or if you already have a job but are needing a side hustle. This site also offers the ability to join its freelance directory, allowing you to create a professional profile that employers can go through and contact you for opportunities.
Remote.io
This job board is dedicated to 100% remote jobs at start-ups and established companies from all over the world, in numerous fields including finance, HR, design, customer service, education, operations, etc.
Fairygodboss.com
Not only is Fairygodboss a great job board site for women that offers reviews of employers and provides information as to how each employer is a supportive workplace for women, but it also offers webinars, virtual career fairs, and a list of the best employers for women. In addition, it offers an online community where you can ask questions and get advice from other job seekers and professionals.
Wellfound.com
Wellfound: (previously AngelList Talent) is a job board for start-ups and tech companies. Apart from offering several jobs that are remote, the great thing about this job board is that it has the salary ranges and stock options listed on the posting – so you’ll never have to wonder if your salary expectations can be met! As this site continues the transition from AngelList Talent to Wellfound, it will also offer interview articles with startup founders and a curated list of featured startups that you may want to work for.
Idealist.org
Idealist is an awesome site that is dedicated to social impact organizations and opportunities. Not only does it help you find jobs near you (or anywhere) that make a change in the world, but it also posts internship opportunities and volunteer opportunities – which are great ways to beef up your resume if you’ve been out of the workforce for a while! And if you’re thinking about going back to school, Idealist has a feature that helps you find grad school programs based on your skills and interests.
The Mom Project
The Mom Project is a job posting site that consists of employers who the company has vetted and confirmed are family-friendly. The Mom Project also has a non-profit, momproject.org, that offers an upskilling certification program that helps women, and in particular moms of color, access resources to advance their careers. The certification programs are flexible and can be completed in your own time. After you complete your certification, they will provide you with job search support.
FlexJobs
FlexJobs is a job board site that posts part-time to full-time, remote, hybrid, flexible-schedule, and entry-level to seasoned professional positions. They research the employers beforehand so you’ll have information about the company upfront which will help you determine if you’re interested in applying for the position. Flexjobs also offers strategies for searching for your ideal job, making it easier for you to discover opportunities that would be a great match. This is a great site to check out if you’re wanting to work from home or if you’re trying to re-enter the workforce.
Like I said, these sites are great for your job-search strategy. But they’re only part of it.
